EAA Chapter 180 Sarasota _ Manatee Counties, Florida Meets the 4th Wednesday of every month, 7:30 P.M. McElmurry Hall, SW entrance, Sarasota Bradenton International Airport |
Prez Sez |
Our trip to Fantasy of Flight was delightful. Walt Grabenstein has a complete report included in this moth's issue. March, April and May are accounted for, as far as events are concerned. So, we should start thinking about June as a possible month for a $100 hamburger outing to Fantasy of Flight.
The Membership Committee has decided that April 1 is the cut off for membership dues. If you have not renewed by that date you will be dropped from the roster.
Due to time pressures we have decided to have our Picnic at Airport Manatee on March 12th, 10:30 AM. These are good membership recruitment opportunities, so please talk it up among your fellow pilots.
Because we have so many new members it is hard to put names to faces. Please wear your name tag at all of our events. Chip Miller, our Membership Chairman, will have some "stick ons" at the meeting for those who forget.
Our own Brad Smith will be the featured speaker at The Golden Pelicans meeting at the Sarasota Yacht Club, 11:30 AM on February 22. Your humble servant is a lifetime member of the Association of Naval Aviators. He understands the Golden Pelicans are affiliated with ANA. The word must be out as I have never been invited. Contact at Golden Pelicans please call Bob Appe at 941-929-7809 if you care to attend.
Due to some "miscommunication" between some of our pilots and the control tower, this month's program will be: Getting around the Airport. It will be a review of all the signs (You know, the ones that are supposed to be at SRQ) and what they mean. Our able electronics expert, Frank Hurlburt, will be setting up the video equipment.
The SRQ Pilots Association has died for lack of interest. I would like to reach out to the SRQ pilot community. EAA will allow us to have Chapter members that are not EAA Members. It's just that they may not participate in EAA events. Ummm, that seems subjective to me. Anyway, Chip Miller, will be our |
representative to attend the monthly Airport Commission meetings ( Also known as Fred's Follies). Let's do a mailing to all the pilots to encourage them to become members of Chapter 180. Let's get more involved in the operations of the airport. It seems to me that the commissioners need all the help they can get.
I hope to see all of you at the meeting this month, February 23, 7:30 PM, Dan McClure room at Sarasota Bradenton airport. Your humble servant |
